There are over 10 interesting forms of digital marketing which makes it hard to pick a favorite. This blogpost is entirely dedicated to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and I am going to tell you why it is my favorite form of digital marketing.

When defining SEO, I like to disregard all the jargon and look at it from a practical perspective.
This is what I mean:

- SEO as a link between websites and search engines
As I mentioned earlier, SEO is a non-paid digital marketing practice that helps increase the visibility of a website on search engines. This is done by tweaking a website’s content to make more user-friendly and easier to be found by search engines.
On linking websites and search engines, SEO helps search engines index a website’s content so that it can rank better on the search engine results page (SERP).
With this definition, our next question will be on what makes SEO stand out from other forms of digital marketing?
In the beginning, I promised to give you some fun-facts about search engine optimization that you will love the most:
- It is cheaper
- The skills are easy to learn

- The results are excellent
SEO is Cheaper
A lot of businesses love to cut on the cost of production and maximize on the results as much as possible. It is the cheapest among the forms of digital marketing discussed here (the Simple Step-by-Step Guide To Digital Marketing).
If you are looking to market your content on a tight budget, SEO is definitely the way to go. All you need to know is how to do on-page and off-page optimization and abide by SEO best practices

Some common off-page SEO techniques include:
- Sharing your website content on social media
- Submitting links from your website to online directories (backlinking)
- Guest blogging (writing content for other blogs within your niche)
- Liaising with influencers to market your website content, and more.
These techniques will not cost you anything to implement if you have the necessary skills.
The Skills are easy to learn
There are soft skills and hard skills in SEO. Most people have the necessary soft skills which puts them a step ahead in the learning process.
If you have good grammar, great critical thinking skills and your writing is just impeccable, the hard skills are not hard to master:
Analytical skills are the best to start with as you get to know how to pull data from a website (such as daily site visits, bounce rate, conversion rate and more) and segment it in a simplified manner.
For the technical skills, knowing a little bit of code goes a long way. Code is what makes your website run as it should. It only helps if you understand the overall implications of a web developer to your site.

The truth about SEO is that the results are great but it might take some time. This could be up to six months for you to appear on the first page of Google, for example. You will be overwhelmed by the impact this brings to your business with a higher ranking.
What’s next after achieving a higher ranking? All you have to do is keep tweaking your optimization to maintain your top position or increase visibility.
Compared to other types of digital marketing, SEO really stands out to businesses for cutting on cost and the fact that it is easy to learn the optimization skills. Depending on how well you optimize your website, the results are quick and quite impressive.
